Prince is a 12yo (2012) off the track Thoroughbred that came to DCER in Sept. of 2023 from an owner surrender. Like many horses off the track, Prince suffered through multiple owners before landing at Dove Creek. Prince suffers from a paralyzed flapper which was mostly caused by being over worked and under cared for during his time racing. Upon arrival, Prince did not seem to be bothered by this condition, our main focus has been getting his weight up and address his poor manners with the farrier, which we have accomplished both! We have noticed some soreness and some irritation while under saddle and has brought us to the decision to have surgery on the paralyzed flapper in hopes of making his quality of life better. Once Prince has recovered, he will slowly enter back into the training program.
